Edward Francis Kerev, taiky',,residing at Otahuliu, was drowned in the Tama tie river by the capsizing' of a sailing boat. Deceased and five other occupants were thrown into the water. Two of the men supported three ladies until they were rescued by a boat from the shore. . Wellington, Jan. 31.

Robert F. Semple, aged 21, a son of the ex-member of Parliament for Wellington South, sustained a compound fracture of his right log on Saturday through the overturning of a rock-laden truck at the Orongorongo water works. He is progressing fa voura bly. Ilawera, Jan. 31. •Miss Violet Iloneyfield, a single woman, about 20 years of age, was bathing with a young man named Brooks in the Waingongoro river yesterday afternoon, when she got into difticurties. Brooks made every effort to get the lady out, but without result. The body was recovered and efforts at resuscitation continued for over an hour without success.

FI SUING‘BOAT SWAMPED. Mas tori on, 'Jan, 30. A boating fatality occurred today at Castlepoint, a seaside resort 45 miles from Masterton. Four well-known residents of Masterton set out early in the morning on a lishing expedition near the Lighthouse in a flat-bottomed boat. The members of the party were Ivan O'Connor, Clarence Hopkins, R. Biggs and 11. Wooding, all married men. A heavy sea was experienced outside, and the boat swamped and upset. The boat was subsequently seen drifting out to sea with three men clinging to the bottom.- Last seen as it became enveloped in mist, it was going north in the direction of .Maiaikona. ft is feared all hands have bo.en lost. Parties from .Masterton and the district are searching the beach for the bodies. Masterton, Jan. 31. Nu trace lias yet been found of the men blown out • to sen from Castlepoint.
