ALLEGED ASSAULT AND ROBBERY.
ON THE RIVER BANK
ACCUSED ARRESTED AND RE
MANDED
An alleged assault and robbers took place on the river hank at the south end ot the town about midday on Saturday. From what we can gather it appears that an elderly man named Humphries, a visi--lor to the races, of refreshments at the Family Hold, in company with three others, one of whom was a woman. Ho subsequently proceeded to I lie river bank, which is covered with lupin, with one of the party, and was followed later by the man arrested, whom, ii is alleged, set upon him and relieved him of a sum of money. The assaulted man’s face and head were badly bruised. Humphries subsequently informed (he police, and alien investigation a man named 4ohn Taylor was arrested by Constables Owen and O’Ponoghue.
At the police court yesterday morning, before Mr Hornblow, 4.F., .John Taylor was charged with robbing and assaulting Samuel Humphries. On the application of the police, the accused was remanded until 10-niorrow.
