The decoration was conferred by King Albert in recognition of the work dontt by the Government and people of New Zealand during fhe war. and the direct help given Hy the Dominion to Belgium.
)tr SegtjflH said the decoration funked among the highest the King could bestow, and 1 1 is country knew it was never better deserved. Never before had there been such an outburst of sympathy and practical charity as was shown by the spontaneous assistance given by New Zealand to Belgium. Such had been the action of every New Zealander who devoted thoughts to the Belgian cause, but it remained to the honour of the Government and its leader to have devoted nil its resources and services •to direct and increase the national effort of the Dominion toward the salvation of Belgium.
