MURDER AND ATTEMPTED ' SUICIDE. SEQUEL TO QUARREL WITH FATHER AND ’SON. • • Dargnville, Yesterday. A fear fill murder and attempted suicide, occurred at Marohemo, near Maungatufoto, yesterday morning, at 8 o’clock, when a/father murdered liis son, and then attempted suicide. It: appears the sou, William Rawlin Needham,' aged eighteen years, was busy separating cream, when an altercation took place with the father, Thomas Needham, aged sixty-five. The father picked up a broom, knocked the son down, and belaboured him with the broom till he -was killed. The body yvas frightfully knocked about.

When the father realised his,act, he cut his own throat with a knife. This being ineffectual, lie secured a rope to bang himself, but was too weak to carry his intenlion into effect.

Constable Boag was promptly on the scene, and had Needham, seme, removed to the "Papnroa Hospital. The wound is not likely to prove fatal.

A preliminary inquest will be held at Maungaiuroto to-day.
