Manawatu Herald SATURDAY, JANUARY 15, 1921. WELL DUNE OTAKI.
BY 205 vole*.- in i 17 Otaki has been raised to Iho status of a borough, and wo lomlor out congrntulniions i.ii the to.su J l oi' Wednesday's poll. The evolution i'vom the Town Board singe will east greater rcsponsibililies upon burgesses, and promote higher ideals of citizenship. Otaki is one of the most delightfully situated localities,• from a residential point of view, on this coast, and the new order of things will facilitate a forward movement in public requirements and eonvenjenecs, which should attract an influx of settlers. The land thereabouts is capable of carrying a much larger population, and the soil and equihle (dimate makes for prolific vegetable and field crops. The rates will naturally increase within the borough area to provide lighting, ‘ wnter and drainage, and well-formed roads and footpaths. All such public works will add considerably to the value of town property, and the prestige and attractiveness of Otaki as a residential town. We cordially wish Otaki every prosperity, and felicitate its progressive citizens upon the forward policy.
