In'the nbscnco of Sir James 0. Wilson (chairman). Mr 11. H. Hunt presided at Wednesday’s meeting of the Mnnawatu County Council. Also present: Crs. J. Boyce, W. E. jßarber, 11. -f. Eagan, and W. S. Penney. * CORRESPONDENCE Correspondence was dealt with fl’OlU N.Z. Railways, forwarding paid-in charges for tram, £2l 8s s<l. Department of Internal .Affairs, notifying that a-portion of county would lie added to Fcilding Borough as from April Ist. District Health Officer, suggesting that the Council should contribute £75 per annum towards expenses of an inspector to be appointed by the Department. —Held over. Commissioner of Crown Lands, notifying Council that 4,000 silver pine sleepers could lie obtained from Crown land s.d. —Application to be made for cutting license.
Foxton Borough Council, asking if Council would bear half cost of constructing, and one-third maintenance, of Nye Street. —Engineer and Cr. Barber to inspect and report .
Horowhenua County Council, claiming compensation for Mr-Suther-land, who had met with an.accident on Whirokino bridge, due to erosion and decay of apron in which silt rests on southern end of bridge. — Left in hands of Cr. Barber. Harold Wilson, asking that tree which obscures view of- Pukcnui road be removed. —Left to Engineer. County roadmen, asking for an increase of Is per day in wages. C. W. Haycock, Shannon, claiming £5 damages sustained to suit of clothes, motor cycle and overalls, also his knbe and hands, a> a result of a fall on the corner of the tramline at Sanson, due to terrible condition of the rails. —Held over.
TEA MAY AY MAXAG TO R’ S RlO PORI’ For December the accounts show a debit balance of £l)3 2s Bid. the chief items of traffic were: Minerals 205 tons, manure 800 tons, merchandise 140 tons, cheese and butter 234 tons, timber 17,000 sup. feet. Fares amounted to £7 17s.
Engines. —Parts of spring gear of the G class locomotives have not yet been returned "from Wellington, where they were forwarded for repairs. Thy locomotive Mansiwatit is working satisfactorily. We are running every day to deal with the traffic. One of the staff resigned. ENG IN FER-’S REPORT. Awahou Riding. During last month we trimmed the FoxtonShiinnon road, Whirokino and I oxton beach, and several other roads, with the road grader. Owing to the Whirokino road being under water so long in the wet season, it will require n large amount of metal to build up to carry the traffic for the next winter. t General. —During the past month, we made fair progress with the earth work on the proposed new -mljng t„ the site of Ihe crusher. The walls of the hopper have been completed, and some of the transoms have been placed in position. We have also sunk a well and obtained a good supply of water for engine
It will be necessary to make arrangements for holding n special county meeting to consider the <|ue*tion of aerial ropeways, transport machinery, tram rails, and the purchase of land for buildings.
