ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
DR OWNING AT UPPER lIUTT. Wellington, Jan. 11. Another drowning fatality has occurred at the Upper Hutt. A lad, Hector McDuff, aged‘ls years, who was camped at Trentliam with the secondary- schools cadet*, went swimming in company with a hundred companions. When the company mustered after bathing the clothes of deceased were found-on the bank and the body was found in a bole. Deceased was a High School student, whose parents reside at Parawai, Thames. / RETURNED SOLDIER DROWNED. Invercargill, Jan. 12. John F, McKenzie, a returned soldier, was drowned while bathing in the Waihopai river last evening. RETURNED MAN’S DEATH. Greymouth, Jan. 12; This morning a returned soldier named Ilvjnfer was found hanged in the bathroom of a temperance hotel, lie arrived from Reef ton on Monday night. Deceased was a married man about 30 years of age. . WOMAN COMMITS SUICIDE. Christchurch, Jan. 12. Louisa Annie Batinerman, married, aged 45, committed suicide 'lncutting her throat with a razor. At (he inquest evidence was given that : ,])o was released on probation from Sunnvside Mental Hospital last month. She had been despondent, but had shown no suicidal tendencies. A verdict of death from a razor wound in the throat, self-in-flicted whilst mentally unsound, was returned.
BODY WASHED UP AT SUMNER
Christ church, Jan. 12.
The decomposed body of a man was found floating in the surf -at Sumner to-day. It is believed to be that of the man who jumped into the sea from the pier a fortnight ago, leaving his coat and vest on the pier. In the pocket of the coat was about £7 in cash, and an address, “John Baird, cure, of J. Studholme, Hinds.”
