ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
KILLED BY A MOTOR LORRY.

An elderly man named George Garrick was admitted to the AVaihi Hospital this morning with both legs broken. He*was op his way to work when lie was knocked down and run over by a motor-lorry. ' He succumbed to his injuries this afternoon. ACCIDENT IN POWERHOUSE. AVaihi, Jan. (5. .1. Ti. Parsons, a switchman employed in the Grand Junction powerhouse, was engaged in .switching on (lower from Horahora, when the current failed, thus throwing the' switches back on the Junction supply, several of the switches of which had riot been previously opened. This caused an electrical flash, with the result that Parsons was burned about the face and arms. A CAPTAIN'S, ESCAPE. The Grey river came close to claiming another victim on Monday morning (says the Argus). Captain Ross, of the Union Company, was coming ashore from the Ivowhai. when the gangway canted, precipitating him into the river. Captain Ross must have struck his head when fulling, for it was seen that lie \<as- bleeding when he came to the surface. He managed to take hold of the (riles, and the crew of the Kowhai, assisted by the waterside workers, succeeded in getting him safely on to the wharf.
A sad drowning fatality occurred in the Murray river, at a spot named Lighthouse Creek Crossing, on Christ mas Day, which resulted in four lives being lost,.says a Melbourne paper.
The victims were Lionel Campbell 11 veal’s of age; Gus .Fnure, 2(5 Mrs Faure, 24; and Mavis Butler 9, all of Greg Greg station.

Butler was riding nlirad, showing the others, wiV were in a buggy, through the crossing, which was very dangerous, hut when half way across they got into difficulties. .Air "Butler rode hack and told them he would take them out of the vehicle one by one. His hoy jumped out first, and his father took him safely ashore, hut when he returned for the rest they were missing. AM four were drowned, also the horse.
Light House Crossing is notable for its death roll, over 20 persons having lost their lives while lording lhe stream there during the last 30 vears.
