GETTING AFTER THE BOOKIE.
FINES OF £IOO IMPOSED. Dunedin, Yesterday. At the Police Court, James Arthur Frost and Thomas Potter pleaded guilty to charges of carrying on business as bookmakers on Ist January and other dates. Chief Detective Bishop explained that,accused were arrested on New Year’s Day. They entered into bookmaking about a year ago, and had been betting on a small scale. When arrested, they both admitted the offence. They had given an assurance that they would not offend in future. This was the first prosecution under the new Act. Each was fined £IOO.
