MOTOR BUS ACCIDENT.
-PICNICKERS PLUNGED INTO A ‘RIVER. . A AY OMAN DROWNED. Hastings, Yesterday. At 10 o’clock this morning a motor ’bus running between Hastings and Clive Grange, and carrying 14 women and children to a picnic, plunged into a river. By a miracle all were saved except Mrs William Heskcth, who was pinned at the bottom of the river under the ’bus. Her body was recovered two hours later. The ’lnis sank in 10 feet of water, entirely submerging the occupants. There were pitiable scenes, women looking for their children, and children looking for their parents. Some grave rescues were effected. Edna Hart, aged 14 years, brought no less than four little -children to shore. The little daughter of Mr Hyslop, of the Bank of New South Wales, had a narrow escape. She was rescued unconscious, but was restored eventually. Apart from cuts, bruises and shock, none of the others were injured. The cause of the accident is a mystery. The driver, George Tucker, was an expert motorman.
