MOTOR OVERTURNS
Dunedin, Jan. 2
A motor ear containing seven ladies'overturned'on Saturday, and fell down an embankment at Signal Hill. Miss Allen and Mrs Reid, of Highgate, Roslyn, were the only two injured, and were taken to a private hospital, one suffering from shock, and J[hc other from a fracture of an arm in two places,
KILLED BY TRAIN
Invercargill, Jan. 2
The Bluff regatta was marred by a very distressing fatality, John Cringle, 22 years of age, married,'a L’anui labourite, residing at Grove Rush, being run over by a train.
SCHOOL TEACHER. KILLED.
New Plymouth, Jan. 2
Ruhv M. Coates, a young school teacher, of Omata,, died at the hospital on Saturday morning as the result of injuries sustained in a collision on Friday night between a motor car driven by John Barras, mechanic, and a motor cycle and side-ear driven by Rupert Grey, of Omata. Miss Coates, the occupant of the side-car, was thrown heavily, and the cycle was almost wrecked. Grey is also an inmate of the hospital suffering from injuries and shock.
COLLEGE BOY DROWNED

A lad .named Frederic]. Godber whose parents reside in Wellington was drowned while bathing at Bel mont, Upper Hutt. Captain Ran kin was in charge of a party of hub from Scot’s College, and decease* was a member of the parly wlu "ivent bathing. Godber was unable It swim,‘and his absence was not hoiieed for some time. Y\ hen the alarm,was given, search was madi and the body recovered a Jew hourif ter.
CHILD SHOT DEAD
Dennevirke, Jan. 2
A shocking tragedy occurred a! Ormondville about J o'clock on New Year’s Day. John French Baines aged four years, son of Mr Altrci Baines, a sheep-farmer, was playng in an outhouse with his brother Alfred, a partial invalid, aged six They found a single-barrel breachloading gun, and not knowing it was 'outlet!, the elder child tired it, killng his little'brother. The fnlhet .vas absent at the time of the accilent.
LADY DROWNED. - Hast ings, \ eslerday. Florence Smith, aged 21. unmarried, a resident of Havelock North, .vas drowned in New Years Day while hiUhing in a'lake at Ipnmnna hiring the progress of a picnic party. At an inquest a verdict ol ac•idental drowning was returned. ! lu Coroner commended the action <>! the picnickers, especially Mrs Bar'cv. for their efforts to save the girl.
