SEASIDE NOTES.

On New Yenr’s Hay a real gala day will he held for the boys and girls. There will he fool races on I lie river foreshore, and swimming events in the river. Prizes have been liberally donated by business people. The running events will commence at 10.30 a.in., and the swimming races at 2,30, full tide. • An energetic committee lias been set up to carry out all details. In the evening a grand concert will lie held in the hall to wind up the day. A splendid programme, of instrumental, vocal ami elocutionary items will lie submitted hi first-class talent. Mr A, J. P>. Nicely is the energetic secretary again this year.

The Beach Committee are endeavouring to arrange tor extra eonveyaifees to carry passengers arriving by train to the seaside. In the past a number of people arriving by train have been left stranded at Foxton, or have bad to walk to,the seaside for lack of locomotion. On Christirias Eve the children had a glorious time in the hall, where a Christmas tree loaded with toys was presided over by a real live Father Christmas, in the person of the Rev. Mr ‘Walton. There were presents for all, and some fo spare. The interior of the hall was charmingly decorated, with bunting and greenery. Miss Spineeley, the matron of All Saints’ Children’s Home, was" the live wire in entertaining “her family’' and other children. The wind on Boxing Day made things a little unpleasant outside, hut despite this drawback the big crowd of visitors appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves, both in and out of the water. Great disappointment has been expressed at the lack of accommodation, and a small fortune awaits the enterprising person who is prepared to speculate in a commodious accommodation house and tea rooms. The number of visitors to the seaside this year constitutes a record.
