“CAT-STEP” AND “CAMELWALK.”
Among 1 Ihe terp>iclKire;iu novelties in prospect fur the coming senson in New York are the “(hitstep” and Ihe “Camel-Walk,'' designed to dethrone (lie “Fox Trot’’ ;ind the “Shhmuie,” the “Bunny Hug” and the “Wiggle,” 100 long established in popular favour, in the opinion of the National Association of Dancing Masters, A dancing adept who has witnessed an exhibition of the “Cal-Step, 1 ’ which is lo bo camonllaged with the high-sounding title of Polonaise Moderne, a I tempts to describe it thus: —
“You step along rather eautionsJy for three or four steps or more, and then turn to right and left with equal caution.” As to the “Camel-Walk,” which in society will —perhaps —be known as the Fox Trot Artistiquc, this is much more complicated (writes the New York correspondent of the London Daily Chronicle). The body is held very straight, and a difficult ballet step is incorporated.
In all of the dances the cheek-to-cheek position will be strictly taboo, if the dancing masters have their wa.\ —which they probably will not.
