Christchurch, Dee. 18,

Slocks of coal for gas-making arc so low that there is a danger of the gas supply of the city being affected before the holidays are oyer. The gas company has less .than a week s supply of coal, and 600 tons from the Kahika have been held up owing to the shortage of trucks. The company has been relying on obtaining a portion of the Newcastle coal to be brought to Lyttelton in die Bilela, but owing to the delay lo the vessel there is no chance of her arriving until after the holidays.
