BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

A meeting of the men s committee of the Beautifying Society was hold in the Presbyterian schoolroom last night, for the purpose of considering questions in regard to the proposed Gala Day—art union and carnival queens. In regard to the art union, Die following prizes were agreed upon;— Ist, Cabinet gramophone, with haltdozen suitable records, value £2o; 2nd, silver lea and coffee service, valued £10: 3rd, china lea service. valued £5. . In regard to the Queen Carnival, a recommendation to the Queen t ainival Committee is to he nfade to the effect that five queens be nominated, to represent the interests-of Sports, Fibre, Citizens, Country and

The meeting also recommended the sum of £ls be allotted for division among the queen candidates

to buy prizes. It was decided (<i ask a popular citizen to noniimite a queen candidate. The question of winding up the Carnival by an entertainment was discussed, and it was decided that two nights be set aside for this object, one for converting everything into bullion, and the other for Coronation, and further, that a committee be arranged to work up the respective evening entertainments. The question of declaring Gala Day a'holiday as far as Foxton is concerned was left in the hands of 3lfjssi#l J «Teau and Christie.
