Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1920. “SAVE THE CHILDREN” FUND.
A FAIRLY satisfactory response has been made to (he Mayor’s appeal for the above fund by the Foxlon public. That the cause is a deserving one- few will deny. It is l ino (hat portion'of (lie fund will go towards ajlcvialing the sufferings of sonic of (lie children' of our late enemies—excepting Genuauy—hut Ihc greater, portion will he expended upon necessitous cases among our allies. Thai innocent children should be allowed to suffer the pangs of starvation and death even though they he the offspring of those whose fathers fought against ns in tho recent war, while we arc in a position to help them, would he to oitr eternal disgrace and a violation of Christian principle. • In this connection wo are pleased to note that assistance was forthcoming from those who have been wounded in heart and body, it is hard to aat on the principle of returning good for evil,' hut when victory has crowned our sacrifices, surely hatred should give place to charily.- It is gratifying to know that our little community has accomplished something in the name of Charity to assist in alleviating the sufferings of those who are dying for the want of sustenance. This act on (lie part, of the British Empires will, in the years to come, add to its glorious prestige.
