A blue sun bus appeared once only, ami will probably never be seen again, oven to the eml oi existence. This occurred in the summer of 17DI, in the Biuida Slates. The cause was the eruption of a large volcano. In the terrible shock that followed, a great range of mountains was blown completely into the air. The cavity left after the explosion was 2,000 ft. deep. Billions of tons of rocks, dust and mud were blown upwards to a height of 17 miles. During the year ended June 30th, 1920, the .volume of traffic passing through the Panama Canal exceeded that in any previous 12month period. A total 'of £>47B merchant ships made the tranAt, compared with 2,025 in the year ending June 30th, 1919. The aggregate net tonnage of the vessels was k 8,545.053 tons, according to the
Panama Canal rales of measurement. The cargo carried by these ships totalled 9,374,499 tons.
In the first six months of this year the estimated weight of the merchandise'imported into the United Kingdom was 21,457,000 tons, as compared with 16,341,000 tons in the corresponding period iff last year, and 26,179,000 tons in 1913. As regards the exports, these amounted in Ihe six months to 21,865GOO tons, as compared with 23,446.000 tons in the corresponding period of last year, and 44,624,000 tons in 1913.
