THE LATE MRS. LANGLEY
A MAORI TRIBUTE. Mr Hare Tciniona, a well-known district Native, interviewed im-yes-terday in reference to the passing of the late Mrs Langley. He said he was greatly disappointed, to lind that he was (he only .Maori represented at the funeral of dec-eased, and that no previous mention had been made of the high , esteem in which the deceased and her late husband were held by the Natives up and down the roust. He said the lute Mr and Mrs Langley took a very keen interest in the welfare of the Natives in the early days, and had they been of a mercenary nature, they would have hud no difficulty in securing a large tract of country from the Maoris, which to duv would have been worth thousands of pounds. The late Mr and Mrs Langley* were looked upon h> the Ngatiraukawa tribe as pakehas to whom they could always go for advice and assistance, which was never withheld. On behalf of the Maori people he desired to pay a tribute of respect to the memory of their departed friend. ■
