“ON OUR SELECTION.”

Reviewing Raymond "Longford's seven-reel (7,500 ft.) pieturisation of Steele Rudd’s famous book, “On Our Selection,” which is to be screened at the Royal Theatre on Friday (to-morrow) evening, the' Sydney Morning Herald of July 2G(;h, 1920, says:—

“Mr E. J. Carroll is to be eongra-, tula ted on the wonderfully successful film dramatisation of Steele Rudd’s famous book, “On Our Select ion,” which was publicly released for the first time in Sydney at West’s Olympia on Saturday. At, both the afternoon and evening performances the Olympic was packed Ivy most enthusiastic audiences, and every now and then the constant simmer of merriment pervading the house exploded in prolonged roars of laughter at iho irresistibly funny developments. The story is not all humour, however, success from the selection is responsible for the heart-breaking struggle (ha( Had and the family endure Re fore they wrest for several poignantly pathetic situations. The opening scenes of the film show Mum and the re-1 of the family leaving town to join Dad and the two hoys on the eight acres the former has selected. The bolling-of (he grey horse with Dad and Dave in the cart is most realistically finalised by their precipitation into a wiilerhole, and ibis so natural event more than anything emphasises the care that has been taken, with the production of the picture. A pretty love interest is given to the film in the wooing of Kate, Dad and Alum’s eldest girl, by a neighbouring settler. It is worthy of emphasis that ‘On Our Selection’ is tin all-Australian picture, which most effectively demonstrates itself in every way as easily the equal of the best imported product ion.” Mr Abel Rowe, the noted singer, will accompany the picture.
