SUMMER SHOW

It is regrettable, however, thill more residents do not enter in the various classes. Our

representative heard, several remarks of regret from those who had flowers and vegetables of equal merit to those shown, 'lml who, for some reason, did not; exhibit. In this connection it has been suggested that a visiting committee be appointed to confer with local growers and encourage them to entertheir products of the soil. The entries, on the whole, were well ii]) to the previous best. The rosese were a fine feature, and some beautiful specimens were' exhibited by .Messrs Wilehel and Penn, of Otaki, the former annexing Urn prize for champion bloom with a splendid specimen of “Miss AVilmot.” Local growers, however, gave the Otaki champions a close run, and in one or two classes more than held their own, among the number being Miss* es Nyo, J. Ross, Hughes, Baker, Speirs, Mesdames Galland, AtcAlurray, Renton and Tver. The sweet pfa section was not up to the standard of previous exhibitions, which was due possibly to unfavourable weather conditions. Some line blooms were exhibited by Mesdames Me Murray, Renton, Moorlmuse and Miss J. Ross. Mrs McMuvray annexed the trophy this year Gy a narrow margin from Airs Renton. These two competitors are now equal, with two wins each. Another win by either secures the trophy. Airs Akmrhousc succeeded in annexing the special for best vase of sweet pens, and next year should he well in the running for first place. The cookerv exhibits would be difficult

to surpass in any metropolitan show, ami ibis compliment attaches equally to the juvenile sectiofi. The judge had a very difficult task to separate the awards among such experts as Miss Skelleu, 'Mesdames Healey, Hillman and Rand. The fancy work class brought out some fine exhibits in crochet work by Aliss I. A. Withers. The decorative work on the whole was well up to the high standard of previous exhibits. The school work was of a very high standard, although there was a difference of opinion as to several of ihe awards. This season did not favour a big display of vegetables, but some excellent varieties were displayed by several exhibitors. A particularly good collection wa- that <»f the Rev. Air Harding. Aliss Nye and Mrs AleAfurray were Ihe principal exhibitors in the pot plant section. ■ Messrs Similar and Mason, nurserymen, had a good display of rose blooms on exhibition.

Mr F. Alason, of Feilding. judged the cut blooms, roses and vegetables; Airs Bradfield, Palmerston N., the decorative; Air A. E. Whitehead, Palmerston N., cooking; Miss Martensen, Palmerston N., fancy work; Airs Harding portion of the school work. The tea-rooms were capably supervised by Mrs Proctor, assisted by Alesdames W. Dawson and Benge. The stewards are In he complimented upon the eh active staging of’the exhibits in the various classes, and a special word of praise is due to Messrs Whihley and Thus. Henderson for the heavy work: in this connection. The following were the officiating stewards: Alesdames Patterson, Me Murray, Renton, Barr, C. H. Symons, Alisses Neylon, Speirs, Nyo, Signal ami Air Galland. The president (Mr AV. Renton), and secretary (Air Daniell) were untiring in their efforts to ensure the success of the Show. Airs Galland annexed Airs A. S. Easton’s trophy for the three named roses, which were magnificent speciemns. During both evenings Air Osborne's orchestra rendered a delightful programme. The cottage garden competitions were responsible for about a dozen entries, and the judge was delighted with the gardens inspected, in ibis connection special praise is due to AJessrs W. Petrie and Alex. Speirs for prizes lo encourage collage gardening. The judging on the whole gave general satisfaction, and the Society is to he congratulated on the success of (his year's Show. A number of competitions were got off both evenings. The president (Mr Renton) desires to sincerely thankflill who in any way contributed to the success ol the exhibition.
