£3OO FINE FOR BOOKMAKING.

Auckland, December 1. John Longhlin and Joseph Dickson admitted charges that they carried on the illegal occupation of bookmaking in a second-hand shop in Victoria Street. The police stated that documents seized in the raid of-accused’s premises disclosed extensive betting operations. Accused were both experienced men, who fully knew the chances they were taking of prosecution. Loughlin was fined £3OO or twelve months’ gaol, and Dickson £IOO or six months’. Defendants were allowed a week to pay the fines.
