At Wednesday’s meeting of the Rangiotu branch of the Farmers’ Union, members took strong exception to the attitude of the Government in delaying the erection of a new post office at Rangiotu, for which the sum of £BOO had been provided on the Estimates last year. It was decided to endeavour to arrange for the PostmasterGeneral to visit the district next week, and arrangements were made a ccordingly. The inefficiency of the culvert aeross the railway line near the Post Office was also mentioned, and the suggestion made that a trestle bridge would serve the purpose and be the means of a considerable saving of public money at present expended in repairing flood damage to the permanent way. It was resolved to ask the Minister of Public Works lo inspect (he spot. It was reported Unit several head of cattle had been killed recently on the railway line because of the fact that the line between Paxton and Longburn was unfenced.
