ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO BRIBE JURYMEN.
ECHO OF THE EASTON CASE,
A LABOURER ARRESTED,
In Palmerston North yesterday Detective-Sergeant Quirkc arrested Thomas Martin, described as a labourer, in connection with an alleged attempt to jntluenco the jurymen in a reeent Supreme Court trial.
Martin was brought before the Magistrate, Air J. L. Stout, yesterday, and charged as follows: That on or about nth November, 1020, at Palmerston North, he attempted to inlluenee, by a bribe, a juryman named Angus Duncan Campbell, in his conduct as such juryman in the case King v. F. S. Easton. Jn requesting a remand, Deteetiye Quirke said that accused had been arrestcd-only a few minutes prior to being brought lud.'ore the Court, and there would he two other similar charges preferred against him. A remand was granted for one week. Bail was fixed at self .€2OO and two sureties of €IOO each. Charges have since been laid against Martin with allegedly having a I tempi ed to inlluenee by a bribe Charles William Fuller, Edward Gilshnau and John Hosanowski.
