PALMERSTON DEVIATION.
AND BAND SI'ECTBATION
the following motion was passed at a meeting *of the Palmerston branch of the Farmers' Union on Saturday:—“That, in the opinion of this branch of the Farmers’ Union, it is of (lie utmost importance that the proposed Palmerston North railwav deviation should be cat tied out as expeditiously as possible, so as to relieve thermit pressure and difficulties aIS he Palmerston North railway station in the handling of stock and farmers' produce. That a. copy of the above be sent to the Prime* Minister, the Minister for Public Works, and the general manager of railways.” The motion was moved by Mr Bhlsillie and seconded by the chairman. Mr Buchanan. Mr Vile thought it was hardly a Farmers’ Luioii matter. During the discussion lolloping on the introduction of the motion, the chairman observed that he could not see how speculation was to be avoided even if the Government did take over the land under the Arbitration Act or Public Works Act, as considered that the required'land i should have been purchased when the intention to make the deviation was first arrived at.
