EDUCATION BILL.
The Education Amendment Hill was brought before the House on Wednesday night. The principal features of the Bill is that the compulsory school age, which is at present 34, is being raised to 15 in the ease of all pupils who have not passed Standard VT., and who are within reasonable walking distance of school. Attendance at school up to the age of 15 is also made compulsory in the ease of those who have passed Standard VI., unless gL dm distance from a school providing instruction in advance oi. Standard VI. is more than four miles. In the ease of children over 14 this clause is to operate from a date lb he fixed by Order-in-Council, and not sooner than Ist .faunary, ID-A Provision is also made whereby alter this year no Stale or national scholarship can be held at private or denominational schools. but only . ad State high sehools and technical sehools.
