Whnt Wits apparently it dclcrmined nltempi lo set lire to Mr -I. Lemtnon’s Inilidtor shop in Oxford Si reel, Levin, was discovered at 2.30 on Saturday morning. A quantilv of slave wood ami pieces of empty eases were gathered in the shop yard and planed against the side door in the passage-way leading lo the roar of the premises, and then fired. The conflagration was well tinder way, and the heap of wood burning merrily when the blaze was observed. With the assistance og ;t hose the fire was soon extinguished.
This is the third occasion of late that Mr Lem)hen’s shop has been interfered with. An entry was forced a few month's ago, and a quantity of meat and some butchers aprons taken, and only two weeks ago the galvanised iron gale at the en-trance-of the right-of-way had the upper portion bent back and broken. Recognising the seriousness of this last attempt, Mr Lemmon got in touch with the police, and Detec-tive-Sergeant Quirke arrived by the first train on the following morning to inquire into the mallei’. Just before noon on Saturday, Detective-Sergeant Quirke arrested a youth named Clarence James Davison, who was brought before Messrs B. I\. Gardener and P. A • Goldsmith, J's.P., and "charged with wilfully setting lire to the building. Constable Bagrie stated that the accused had only been arrested that morning, and he asked for a remand till 9.30 on Saturday next, October 30th. This was granted, bail being allowed in two sureties of £SO each.
