The PostmastemGeneral (Hon. J. G. Coates) informed a deputation from the Wellington Chamber .of Commerce that Ihe .Department intended instituting a new system of. night or deferred telegrams at the rate of .'Hi words for Is (id, with a charge of Ml per word over 'that lamihcr. The.telegrams would have lo he in the office an hour before dosing time. They would he sent immediately, hut would mu he delivered until the next morning, or would lie placed hi the letter boxes. :,s the ease may he. Gn reaching ihe other end they became ordinary Idlers.
The Minister incidentally staled llml the number of telegrams passing through the post office since the institution of the ucav rates had decreased hv LI per cent., hut the teveiiue had increased by about «.<o per emit.
