CROQUET.
The local croquet lawn was officially opened yesterday afternoon by Dr. Mandl, president of the Dowling Club, and Mrs Mandl played* the first shot.. There was a large a,t tendance of members and visitors, and the lawn, which was in excellent condition, was fully occupied during the whole afternoon. A leu minutes tournament was played, and resulted in a win for Mrs Petrie, of Feildiug, and Mrs Pollock, of Levin, won the consolation prize.
The olTicial opening of the Levin lawn lakes place next Wednesday afternoon, and all local players who desire to make the trip arc requested to put- their names on the board at the pavilion, or notify the secretary (Mrs Pearson).
