Brices continue to decrease. Gloves have dropped from 10s (id lo is fid, and woollen socks to Is (id. There is a remarkable demand for live-guinea’suits. Boots, shoes, and linen have considerably decreased, and the price of lea is now (mm Is 8d to 2s Bd, against 2s 8d to 3s, and cocoa is Is (id against 2s 2d.
Orders from abroad have been reduced owing to (he fall in the sterling value of Continental, Indian, and Cliine.se exchanges. Metals have dropped. Yorkshire warehouses are staffed as the result of Hie cancellation of foreign orders, and factories arc working sliorft time. The demand tor wool is weak, and the majority of wool-sorters are unemployed. The hope of an improvement is remote. It is estimated that it costs 3,000 per cent, more to produce a yard of twelve-ounce serge than in 1915.
