BOWLING.

The official opening of ihe local howling green will take place tomorrow afternoon, at 2 o’clock. \is- ' ding howlers are ex peeled from lire, Otaki, Levin, Shannon, Manawatu, Baliner,Mon X., Terrace End ami Feilding Clubs, arid altogether there should bo a record a 1 tendance. Tin; refreshments are being provided by Ibe members of the (..lull, all bow lei.-? being requested to bring a basket. The green is in real good order, and with a line day a very successful opening should result. A meeting of the Commit tec of the dub was held last night to nmko final arrangements in connection with the opening. A “working bee’’ will lie on I lie ground from S o’clock to-morrow morning, and all member,s able to do so are requested to roll up and give a hand. At last night’s meeting of the Committee it was unanimously decided to recommend that Messrs J. B. Smith and I). Whihley be made ]ifc members of the Club. During the off-season Mr Smith, who is a resident of Napier, had taken the levels and top-dressed the green on two occasions, bringing from Napier his own machine for this purpose, and had spent about two weeks working on the green. As_ a result of his efforts a much improved green would lie available tor members. The members of the Club appreciate very much Hie assistance Mr Smith has rendered. Mr Smith has signified his ideation of being present at the official opening toMr D. Whihley has been a member of the Club since its Lor- ( mat ion, and has always taken a very keen interest in its welfare. The gardens around the bank have been”his especial care for some

years, and he has kepi them in or- ■» der practically unaided, and has - also spent many hours workng on the green and other parts of the' ground. He was a member of the Committee for some years, and i* "also a past president. For the many .services he has rendered the Club the Committee considered he was entitled to the highest honour in their power to bestow, that of being elected a life member.
