BOOKMAKER FINED.
Timaru, ITth Oct, In the Magistrate’s Court to-day John Taehen pleaded guilty to makh,o' a hook at the recent Geraldine races. He was not a regular hookmaker and acted quite openly. As this was the first prosecution under the Act of this session, which came into force on 28th August, Mr Mosjey. while pointing that the penalty was a line of up to £SOO or ■three years’ imprisonment, lined accused £ls, and £3 costs.
