MOVIES AND MORALS.

IN reference to tin 1 necessity lor a, stricter censorship ol lilms referred to in our last issue, the proprietor of the Town Hall Pictures ha.handed us a circular he has received from tin' Film Renters' Association in which it is staled that “tor the future pictures passed by the (cnsor will have one of two cerlilicates, one known as the “A" cerlilicale being recommended more especially for adult audiences; the other —“l" r ccrlilicaK —being passed for universal exhibit ion. It is pointed out, however, that the lormcr docs not mean that children arc forbidden to witness the picture, tail it. places the responsibility of allowing the children to be present on their parents. The agitation for the prohibition of suggestive pictures is hot against; the middle man who hits to take whatever is sent on circuit, but is aimed at the producer of the border-line movies. Some of the American producers are pulling lilms on* the market which not only discount our intelligence, but are calculated to undermine the morals of the rising generation. In dealing with this latter class of picture, distinguishing brands arc only trilling with the subject. The censor is vested with power not only to “blot out" but to prohibit films and it is time he took more, drastic action.
