FOOTBALL CLUB BALL.
“One of the most successful and enjoyable functions of its kind yet held in -Foxton,” was the. verdict: of
all who attended the Foxton Football Club’s first annual ball, held in (he Town Hall on Tuesday night. During the day members and supporters of ,the Club were busily engaged decorating the interior of the hall and supper-room and preparing the floor for dancing, and the ladies were hard at work with arrange,ments for the supper. When the doors were opened in the evening, the hall presented a very pleasingappearance, the greenery, (lags and streamers being very tastefully arranged, and (he Club’s colours, yellow and'black, were much in evidence. It was anticipated there would be a large attendance, but it is doubtful if anyone expected to -ce (he very large number of dancers of both sexes that put in an appearance, there being Avell t>ver 10(1 couples presen 1, including visitors from Levin, Manakau, Shangou, I’ahuerston North and Tokomaru. The dancing space of Ihe hall was taxed (o its utmost capacity. A feature of the fund ion was (he lighting arrangements, Ihe different colours thrown on Ihe dancers as they glided around the hall making a very pretty sight. During the evening songs wore contributed by Mrs Maries (Wellington), and Mrs Davey (Moutoa). The music was supplied by Miss Reeve (piano), Mr Graham (violin), and Mr B. Walls (cornet), and extras were played by Mrs Maries, Mrs McDonnell and Mr Merwood. An excellent supper was laid out in Ihe supper-room, Ihe catering' arrangements being under supervision of a eommiltee of Judies .assisted by Mrs Walls. Mr A. Smith made an efficient M.C.
Daring the evening the trophies won by Ihe junior team, which had been brought over by Mr ,1. W. Procter (chairman of the llorowhenna Rugby Union), were presented lo ihe captain of the club (Mr 11. Reid) by Mr F. 1). Whibley. They comprised ihe Horowheuua Union Cup, the Coley Cup, Carved Maori Canoe and Ihe Hall Banner, Other presentations as follows were also made: —Juniors four gold medals donated hy Mr R, IT. Beveridge, Mr A. E. Admore. and (he Foxton Retailers’ Association (2) : Mi- ii. Reid (best all round player), Mr M. Robinson (best forward), Mr Waller Baker (best back), and Mr H. Taylor (most unproved playei). These trophies were awarded by ihe popular vole of members of (he junior learn. Third Class —Two gold medals presented by Mr M. McDonald for the best forward and be.-J, back in Ihe team: Mr D. Ball (back) and Mr James Christie (forward). Mr James Desmond, coach of the junior learn, was presented hy (he members with a case of pipes and a tobacco poiw-h suitably inscribed. as a mark of Ihe esleem in which lie was held and a slight recognition of ihe valuable services lie had rendered, the learn. Mr W. il. Hynes, who acted in a similar capacity lo lhe third class team, was made ihe recipient of a wallet hy the members.
