From the New Zealand Railway Department, stating that severa! ol the comity’s tramway waggons were in need of repair.— Received. From the Auckland City Council and tho New Zealand Comities’ Association, asking the Council's support in opposing various sections of tho Land and Income Tax Amendment f Jill. Both letters were endorsed.
From the Sluggish River Drainage Bord. asking the Council to meet the board in Palmerston North on October 21 and ■■iideavour to come to some definite decision in connection with the removal of tho willows- from tin l Oroua river.—Resolved that (lie board tie informed ihat they (the board) have power to deal with the matter, and the Council cannot see that a. conference would help.
From rlie Foxtnn Gliambor of Commerce, asking tin l Council to reconsider the matter of declaring goats' rue a noxibus weed. The clerk to reply slating that information had been received to the eliect that tin: Government were treating I lie matter ot cutting the weed in a very portunciory manner and. that there was a large quantity growing in a Manawatu river-bed. In view ol the Government’s apathy in (he matt or, the Council. could not. see its way clear to alter its decision and declare goat, a rue a noxious weed. Crs. W. S. Benny and 11. H. Hunt rcporled Ihal. they had wailed upon the Minister oi Lands with regard In allerations to the plan of the Tangimoana township.' The Minister had had several alterations made, and on hehal) of tin 1 Council, the councillors had agreed lo those.—Resolved to endorse cnmicillors' action and (hank them for their services. ll was resolved that all outstanding rales must be paid before tin l 23ju I inst. The Council decided to apply lor a loan of £7OO for metalling Kopane road. ENGINEER'S REPORT.
The engineer reported as billows : —Sandlin riding: During the past month we have clayed the whole of the. rough metal along 1 the Ohakea and Taylor’s roads. 1 lie truck is now employed carting clay and blinding Just’s road, which will be omipleied in a few days. Mt. Stewart riding: I. have searilied and broken down the large stones on the whole length of Kowhai road, and the roller is being employed to consolidate I lie road. The Hood in tile Mangaone creek scoured oil a considerable quantity of metal along the I'eddingAwahnri road. With relerenee to the county reserve adjoining Mr Hooper's old property on the i'Vilding-.Awahnri road, Mrs iM. Denman has bought out Air Hooper's interest in the property, and is prepared to rent ihe reserve from the Connell for a term. During the recent fiond in the Makino creek tin; fool bridge on Wells ,sl reel was carried away, and il is a question whether it, will he advisable (n replace if pending the const ruction ol a ( ui:c;vie iraliie bridge over the creek. Wailohi riding: -Not very much progress is being made to complete the l‘airfield road formation, and in order to get die mad metalled ibis summer, it will be necessary to push on will; I lie binnnlion witii all speed. Hongotea riding: 1 lie road gliider Inn been employed during the past month trimming np Sanson s-. Jones’ and Tompkin'.s roads, i have made up an estimate tor metalling Mr L. ’l. McLeans nad in the Kopane, and applications: should be made for a loan of £7OO to metal tin • road. K.r.vu Ka.wa riding: ’lhe usual count v road maintenance work 1 lias been done in tins riding during the past me,nth on the Main drain, 'lnikorea, Dainesse and ivellows roads. My estimate lor li burning and metalling ol .Dykes road is £2600, Should the settleis interested decide to have this road metalled it will be necessary io raise (he above amount by 'way ol loan. \wahoti riding: Metal Ini- been carted and weak places patched np on the Whirokino road, ami repairs have been carried out on (Im Imxtoii. Shannon and Kan Kan roads. Tramway: We have taken up a short length of old 4Clb rails anil replaced them witli new niilft which arrived several months ago. We hate also commenced exeavaiion work on the new siding leading to the proposed site ol the stone crusher anil hopper, and in a few days time we expect to have the hopper in the course o eon-trnct-ion. Stone crusher: As requested bv the. chairman. Air Drew and myseil made an inspection of a Stone crustier toilin' purpose of deciding the question of a question whether it will be advisable to purchasing the mod suitable crusher to deal wilh Rangirikei stone. After examining the working of the above crusher we decided to inspect the erndmr working in the Kiuranga county. Tin’s crusher was working , satisfactory that councillors decided on purchasing one of the same typo. Afctalling Daumiers’ road: The following is my estimate for forming and metalling 122 chains of Mr K. R. Saunders’ road:— Forming, culverting and metalling. £2492 10s, foiniing and cidverting only, £IO2B 10s; metalling only, £1464. THAA!WAY AfAXAGKRS RKI OR I.
