HYDRO-ELECTRICITY.
MANAWATU CO I -\GH.'S POSITION. At yesterday's meeting nf ilii> Miiii-i\v:ilu Comity Council a letter was received I nun tin, l provisional minii l lcc of the proposed Feildiug anti District Power Board asking tlio Council to alijioinl two delegates to attoml a meeting' of the committee at Feildiug on October 2D. The cnamnau (Sir. James Wilson) slated rind the matter of the formation of a I lower board with its centre at .Feildiug required very cat'eful consideralion. At lint recent hydro-electric conference at Feuding it had been stated that I lie Government, proposed to include the whole of the Manawatu and Rangitikei Counties as pne 1 lower board district. As far as area tVa.s concerned this would make a. very veasonjililc district. Another proposal brought forward, however, was that "Palmerston North and the Kairanga Comity should he excluded. Should this be ilono the remaining district would be about 00 miles in length by 15 miles in breadth. This, he considered, -would be an absurdly shaped district. lie thought it would ho preferable, and more advantageous it the Mamiwatu districts joined forces with Palmerston North and ivairaiiga. 'I hey should nut decide definitely at. present what (heir policy was to be, but should wait until thev'had further information on the matiter. Should the Council decide to send delegates to tills conference, it would he advisable, in his estimation, if they were instructed to state that the Council had not yet decided upon a definite course ot action. . , . Cr. Hunt stated that it would be advisable if the chairman visited Wellington and ascertained their exact: position. It was (inallv decided that the chairman and Cr. Hunt‘attend the conference on behalf of the Council. RONGOTEA ELECTRIC- I’FAN I. A deputation, consisting ol Messrs IJaira,rh, Will ami Courtney, of Rongoiea, win ted on the Council for (he purpose ot urging it to lake over the Rongotea electric lighting plant. ~ 'The chairman staled that the Fount'll was not unfavourably inclined towards the proposal, ,bnt before they could do anythin' 1 ' they would need to obtain a iceiisc frma the‘Government. They had already applied for one in coimeeimn with the H (■ (rihuth.mof hydro-electric power jut nntal this was received nothing could be dom. If however, the license were m'-mied. the deputation could rely upon the oune.l giving full consideration to the mallei.
