FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

SPECIAL .MEETING. ■; A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last night to consider (he‘matter of temporary otlice accommodation pending consideration of the erection of new Council Chambers. There 'were present : The Mayor (Mi\J. Chrystall), and Crs Coley, Parkin, Hunt, Pearson, Rand and Bryant. An apology for absence was received irom Cr. McMnrrav.

The Mayor said the Council would have to 'consider ways and means of creeling new municipal buildings pnd a loan for the purpose would he necessary. As far as lie was concerned the new buildings would have to bo brick or'concrete. The first question to consider, however, was dial of temporary premises in which to carry on the business of the Council, pending the erection of the new buildings. The Town Clerk said (hut thanks [o the excellent work of the salvage corps the whole of the Councils office records had been saved, and also the stock of gas tidings,-etc., from the showroom. Immcdiulely after the (ire he had looked round for some premises in which to carry on his work", and had secured two cloak rooms in the u|>stairs portion of the Town Hall. The previous night, with assistance, he had creeled shelves, etc., and allliougli everything was very much disorganised he was getting it into something like order. It would be necessary for him to have some capable assistance for .a couple of weeks and he asked for authority to engage same. The hooks in the strong room were smoked and dirty '■ but not otherwise damaged. Whilst he would he in the Town Hall it would he necessary to carry the hooks to and from the strong room each day. Cr. Hunt said" it would he at least twelve months before a new build-ing-could be erected. Cr Coley considered it would be advisable to build temporary premises on the old site or on the Government section adjoining. Cr. Hunt said (hey could erect a temporary building so that the permanent building could be erected over it. Cr. Coley said the Town Hull was not suitable for temporary offices as it was too fur away irom the strong room. Cr. Bryant suggested putting the temporary building on the Councils land adjoining the old site.

(T. Hunt said that even in the . > erection of a temporary building the ■> * Council would he ‘‘up against it” a.- far as material was concerned. Timber was very difficult to obtain. He suggested that probably the band room eould be moved up on to (lie old site and utilised as a lemporarv office.
