MANY CHARGES PENDING
Charges of prolileering were io have been heard in (he .Magistrate’s Court al Wellington on Thursday, before Mr F. Iv. Hunt, S.M., hut on the, application of Mr P. S. K. Maeassey, Crown Solicitor, the hearing was adjourned, for a fortnight. There were ten. informations against four wholesale linns —Bing, Harris and Co. (three charge!-), R. Jameson and Co. (two charges), Robert Wilson and Co. (four charges), imd Aiiller and Ahearn 'one charge). The informations were laid by the Board of Trade in respect of alleged prolileering on the sale of tweeds, Mr Alaea--ey, in asking for the adjournment, said there were ten informations against four business firms for selling tweeds a I prices unreasonably high. lie understood from Mr C. P. BkerreU, K.C., who was appearing for the defendants, that he intended to raise the question of replacement value, and as*, that matter was before the Full Court and a decision had not yet been given, the adjournment was advisable. Mr Macasscy said he did not admit flint the defendants were entitled to raise that point, but since it, was going to he raised it would be well to have the judgment of the Full Court. “( may state,” said Mr Alaeassey, “that the Board of Trade, after making full inquiries, had arrived at the conclusion that neither the woollen companies nor the tailors had been profiteering; the charges are ail against warehousemen, and 1 think that when all the facts are placed before tlie Court the public will be gered at the protits made by these firms.” The adjournment was granted,
