LOCAL COAL SUPPLIES.

GAS ECONOMY URGED

The Town Clerk has received the following letter from the Coal trade Committee re coal supplies for the local municipal gas evorks; “In view of the diminished output of the State coal mines and other mines, the Coal Trade Committee are unable to guarantee that sufficient supplies of coal will be forthcoming Jo enable you to continue activities.”

In view of this notice, and in order to conserve the coal supply at the works, the street lamps have not been lit.

In conversation with the. Town Clerk this morning, we were asked to recommend to all gas consumers that gas be economised as far as possible. If due economy is exercised tLie present stock of coal may suffice for a little over a fortnight. .
