BAY OF PLENTY SEAT.
THE BY-ELECTION. MR. K. S. WILLIAMS RETURNED. Opotiki, Septerab. 30. ■ The weather was wet and cold for the Bay of Plenty by-election, rendered necessary hr the death of the Hon, W. D. S. MacDonald. The final figures (without absent votes) are; — Williams (Government) 2381 Lysnar (Liberal) 1720 Majority for Williams .. 052 Mr Kenneth S. Williams, the new member for the Bay of Plenty, was born at the Bay of Islands in 1870. He was the sixtii son of the late Mr John 'William Williams, who sat in the lbuibe of Representatives for the Bay of Islands in the 1870-1870 Parliament. The new member was educated at llcretaunga School, Hastings, and Christ’s College, Christchurch, and at present is president of the Christ’s College Old Boys’ Association. Tie settled at Matiibia, on the East Coast, in 180-1, and has been chairman of the Waiapu County Council for the past ten years; also a member of the Aaiapu Hospital Board and the Tokomarn Bay Harbour Board, and has been prominent in other local institutions. Together with other members of the Williams family, be established Ihe Waiapu Soldiers’ Settlement, which was purchased for £40,000, with the object of settling returned soldiers, and the income is to be used lo assist incapacitated soldiers belonging to the East Coast.
