WHOLESALE RESIGNATIONS.

EEATIJEIiSTON BOROUGH COUNCIL. Carterton. Sept. 29.

The Deputy-Mayor (Mr J. A. Smith) and seven councillors of the Eealherston Borough Council resigned in a body yesterday evening as an answer to. the hy-election, whereby a member of the council, who had been suspended for alleged insulting conducl, ami who had resigned without withdrawing the remarks objected 10, was relumed again. The silling council considered such action on (he part of the electors a vote of no-confidence in them, and , therefore, resign and decline to seek re-election. Difficulty is apprehended in obtaining a new council.
