GOATSRUE.
In conversation with Cr. W. E. Barber (Alanawatu County Council) yesterday in reference to the spread of goalsrne, our representative was informed that the only correct way to deal with Hie menace was to eradicate Hie weed at its source, and prevent Hie seed from being carried down the Manawatu River and spread broadcast over the land during flooding periods. Mr Barber said probably the platif could be used for ensilage, but it was impossible to deal with it in this way unless gathered on level or cultivated ground. Air Barber expressed the opinion that, an overflow channel would be a safeguard. Ho said he had paid two visits to the Manawatu Gorge, the source of the growth, and the growth was as prolific as heretofore. He did not think the Connell should declare it a noxious, growth until more effective steps were taken lo deal with the noxious growth at its source.*
