There was great rejoicing at Invercargill on Wednesday last when Southland defeated Wellington by 17 points to (i in the Hanl'urly Shield competition. The final whistle saw a. scene, of tremendous enthusiasm, the crowd invading the ground and carrying the victors off shoulderhigh. The semi-final in I he Moasca r Cup competition to decide ihe interschool championship of the North island, will lake place at Palmerston this afternoon, between the Palmerston High School and Auckland Crammar School. Cramnmr has established a great reputation in the north, while Palmerston High School have downed Napier, St. Pal.A, and Te 7\nte. The three schools in the final are the two mentioned, and Christchurch Hoys' High School, which are the three leading schools in Ihe Dominion in the field id' athletics. The following is the list of matches played in the Moasca r Cup competition:—North Island: Si. 1 Patrick's College till v. Scot's College 3; Napier High School (57 v, Dannevirke High School 0; Te Ante College 13 v. Cisbornc High .School 3; Hamilton High School 22 v. Whangarei High School H; Palmerston X.
