THE TAXI STAND.
TO BE SHIFTED TO CLYDE STREET. At tin; last monthly meeting of the Borough Council an application was received from the taxi proprietors to have the stand shifted from Main Street to Clyde Street. Cr. Coley then moved that the request be aeeeeded to, but as there was tilready a motion on the hooks fixing the stand in Alain Street, it: was first necessary to rescind same, and Cr. Coley accordingly gave notice to delete Alain Street in the original motion and substitute Clyde Street. This not ice came forward for consideration at last night’s meeting. Cr. Coley said the taxi proprietors were not satisfied with the present stand, and considered Clyde Street was the best location for the stand.
Cr. Walker said that at present some of (lie taxis used Clyde Street in preference to the Alain Street stand.
Ci-. Thompson thought the Council should let them go into Clyde Street. The Mayor opposed the motion. He said the stand was first fixed in Clyde Street, and the taxi men were not satisfied, and asked to go into Alain Street, and now they were not satisfied with Main Street, and wanted to go back into Clyde Street. It was a waste of time and energy shifting the stand about. Cr. Pearson said the taxi drivers did not ask to go into Main Street. They wanted the stand in Clyde Street so that they would be back on to the prevailing wind. The motion was carried.
