BOWLING.
The following’ is the annual report, to be submit I oil to the annual meeting of members of the Foxlon Bowling Club, to be held in the Council Chamber on Wednesday evening next, at 7.20 p.m.;—
‘‘Your Committee have pleasure in submitting the annual report and balance-sheet for the season .191920. When the heavy and necessary expenditure on the green is taken into consideration, members will agree that the linancial position is eminently satisfactory. The total receipts for the year were £134 (is (id, and the expenditure £155 4s ()d. In addition to the ordinary expenditure in connection with the green, it was found absolutely necessary to expend some £s(l more to bring the green into playing condition for the coming season. In connection with this work, the Club wish to tender their llianks to Mr Smith, of Napier, for his generous and sportsmanlike notion in giving Ids very valued experienee, and also - his work, in the top-dressing of the green. In the work, Mr Smith used his own patent machine for levelling and lop-dressing . Members who had the privilege of seeing the machine working consider it the best invention that has yet come out for this work, and we can heartily recommend its use to other clubs. We regret that the Club is still handicapped in the matter of a water supply, and hope that ultimately we will he able to avail ourselves of the town supply, but in the meantime would urge the incoming Committee to make some provision in the wpy of pumping. The opening of the green was a highly suc-
ces*ful fund ion, visitors ;it tending from a .largo number of neighbouring dubs. During tins season a gala day was held on the green, and Ave hope the Centre will arrange (he continuance of Ihese -enjoyable outings. The Club was represented a I almost every opening in the Centre. We regrel that very little visiting Avas done, and suggest that during the coining season as many visits as possible be arranged. .Nothing lends more to create goodfelloAvship ainonst bowlers than these friendly visits. During the season the Chi!) were successful in winning the Triangular Shield, a competition between Levin, Shannon and Codon. Arrangements are being made for a conference of delegates of (dubs interested to formulate new conditions for this compel it ion, which we hope Avill form a basis satisfactory to all. The catering arrangements were in the hands of the ladies, and in this connection the Club wish to lender their sincere thanks. With reference to the croquet green, new proposals have been dismissed with, the iadies,.and will be submitted to the meeting. The trophies (gold pins) presented by the President; and Mr F. I). Whibley, and peanuts presented by Mr .1. W. Stevenson, together with the Xye Ferns, were keenly contested throughout the season, and the thanks of the Club are due to the donors. A pair of bowls kindly donated by Mr Rlmmer were won by Mr Mercer, in a competition for first season’s players. In conclusion, your Committee desire to thank all members who assisted in any way in the betterment of the green, and trust that the coming season Avill be a highly successful one.’’
