At yesterday’s meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board particulars and photos, of a steamer suitable for the Foxton trade, over which an option had been obtained, were placed before members. The vessel is at present in Hobart, and from tho particulars supplied would he a most suitable vessel for working the Foxton port, being capable of carrying 170 tons of cargo on a draft of seven feet.
It is suggested that a company be formed with a capital of about £20,000, to purchase this vessel, and also another one, to trade between Foxton and Wellington. - From information before the Board several people bad already signified their willingness to take np shares. The matter had been referred to some mcifihers of the Palmerston North Cliamher'of Commerce, and it was considered that- if a canvass were made there would be no clinically in getting the necessary dipt ini subscribed. An estimate of the pro-, bable revenue and working expenses showed that the project would be a good paying one. It was decided’to forward all the particulars to the Palmerston N. Chamber of Commerce, with the request that they should take in hand the matter of forming a company to purchase I lie vessel for the FoxlonWellington trade.
