SAND DUNE COUNTRY.
METHOD OF A F.FORESTATION
One section of the report of the Director of Forestry deals with forest extension, and in particular, with certain peculiar regional needs. In this connection it is recommended lliat dclinile long-time schemes be established by the Stale in the south-western coast of the North Island (sand dune country) known as, the Manawatu West Coast district, and on the houlere Hills, Nelmui. in bulb eases, Captain FlJis says, the project might be executed on a eo-operative basis between the local bodies and the Stale. A partnership in which the State provided the planting material free of cost, and gave supervision and a part of the cost of formation, while the local bodies provided the land amt the local management, etc., would meet the case. The net proceeds should be divided on an equitable basis.
