HOTEL LICENSE PROBLEM.
REOPENING ALTER THE WAR
UNUSUAL POSITION AT
THAMES,
At the quarterly meeting of the Thames Licensing Committee held on Wednesday, a somewhat peculiar point was raised’regarding certain licensed hotels which, had been closed temporarily under the war regulations, namely, (.he Tramway Hotel (Coromandel), Kunoinnu Hotel (Knaotunn), and Post Office Hotel (Neavesville). Applications for a renewal of these licenses fit the annual meeting were adjourned to allow the owner.- (o make arrangements for re-opening, as under the Act they could only remain closed during the currency of the Ac! or until six months after the termination of the war. The police report showed that the Tramway Hotel (Coromandel) had been pulled down and removed, while the other two had been dismantled and closed. All furniture and effects had been removed. '
Air llogben, who appeared for the owner of the Rost Office Hotel (Neavesville), asked for a further adjournment to allow the owner time to find a suitable poison to open the house, as she would he prepared to refurnish. He pointed out that, although the six months period after the conclusion of the Avar had expired in July, an amending Act had been passed repealing the original Act, so as to make six o’clock closing permanent, and this also extended to hotels temporarily closed under the war regulations, as it did awav ’with the limit of time alloAv-
The chairman pointed out that it Avottld be an impossible position if the committee were obliged to remov licenses for lueses which could be kept pennimi n.:!y closed, but, in vieAv of the fact that the Kiiaolnnn Hotel and tin- Po.-I Office Hotel (Neavesville) were nece.-sary convenience- Cor 1 lie .I ra vellum public, it was decided to adjourn these two Applications until the next quarterly meeting to allow the owners time to make the necessary arrangements. The application for a renewal of the Tramway Hotel license (Coromandel) was refused.
