LEVIN-MARTON RAILWAY.
Saysethe Rangitikei AAvoeate: — Last Avcekjhe Mayor of Wanganui developed a most unusual anxiety for I lie interests of Palmerston North, when a letter from the Mar-lon-Levin Railway League was being discussed, and his motion refusing support to the proposal was carried by one vote. Other Councillors showed that they realised the fact that the proposed line will not only not injure Palmerston, but will benefit Wanganui. It is rather surprising to find that anyone with interests in the chief seaport of this district would 'oppose anything likely to develop it, as the Maflon-Lcvin railway would. The Rangitikei and Manawalu districts, that would be .-erred, form the real back country of Wanganui, and the more they develop the greater will be the trade and prosperity of that port and city. Realisation of this fact would cause Wanganui to give whole-souled support to this important line, which will not only benefit the through traflic from Auckland to Dunedin, but induce greater settlement and more production in Wanganui's back countrv.
