WELLINGTON WATERSIDE TROUBLE.
MEN RESUME’ WORK. Wellington, August 25. The watursiders held a meeting lids morning to consider whether (hey would accept engagements to work the superphosphate cargo in the Japanese steamer. After a lengthy meeting it was decided to take a ha Hot, which resulted in a vote for ihe return to work. The men will start on the wharves at one o’clock. [Referring to the above, the V\ellingion Post says: —“It is to be hoped that in future the ‘mistakes’ of the walersidcrs —to adopt the word of a Labour member of the City Council —will be fewer. It is satisfactory that the principle of the sanctity of agreements, in part as well as in whole, lias been maintained. Perhaps in lulure the Disputes Committee will have a real value, and contracts will not be entered into without regard for their obligations as well as their benefits.”] NO LABOUR— SERVICES STILL SUSPENDED, Wellington, To-day. Hopes ran high in the city yesterday that by the evening, at any ryle, the untoward circumstances of the past three days would be banished, and the ordinary conveniences restored. At their stop-work meeting, at S o’clock in the morning, the waterside workers resolved to resume work at 1 in the afternoon. When the call on the wharves was made at that hour, however, little response was made. WORK RESUMED. Later, This Afternoon. Work was resumed on the wharf this morning, and it is anticipated that matters will tie back to normal in the course of a few days.
