HIGH COMMISSIONER’S KEPOKT
The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 21st instapt, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: —
Meal. —Market si ca(tier. Bettor demand for fresh beef and mutton, of which there is a small supply. Prices firmer. Beef Is s ld, mutton Is lOd, land) Is lid. Imported: Maximum fixed prices unchanged.
Butter. —Government,' price AviiJ be raised to 2s 8-Ad wholesale, 3s retail, as from 23rd August. Irish. — Gmail supply quoted at £2l to £2l 10s, but demand is not brisk at this figure, English.—Average price is £l9 17s (id. Danish. —Production reported to be well maintained, but milk supplies are likely- to decrease from noAv on. Also reported that Food Ministry has been unable to conclude agreement Avitli Denmark for noA\ T contract on accounUof high prices. Present contract expires at the end of this month.
Cheese. —English, demand continues slow, and is chiefly for lower priced descriptions.. Quotations range from £8 to £9 2s. Canadian, spot, demand is quiet; white £7 13s, coloured £7 17s! Quotations -e.i.f. firmer, coloured £B, but no business has been done.
